Do you feel the tension?
Do you feel the tension? Seems to me we are living in a time of deep anxiety and need. We know somewhere in our gut that love is all around us and that people are generally not out to hurt others, but a few minutes of watching or reading “the news” would have us think that hate and violence are the norm. This new song is an examination of that tension.
UNSPOKEN was originally written as a swampy front-porch-blues glimpse into our interactions with each other and the loss of connection and compassion in today's highly polarized world. This moody version of the song transports you to a remote desert island where the sparse yet exotic landscape compels you to sit for a moment to contemplate the unspoken needs we all have in this modern but disconnected era.
Recorded at the fantastic Rio Bravo Studio in Valencia, Spain, I co-produced the tune with my immensely talented homeboy Xema Fuertes. To be fair, he did most of the heavy lifting in creating a soundscape which could be described as a mashup of the classic Godzilla, James Bond and Spaghetti Western movie soundtracks. Drums, percussion, guitars, vibraphone, and piano were played by Xema and he is responsible for the final mix. I grow and learn a ton every time I get to make music with him, and I sure feel like we knocked it out of the park with this song. Moltes gracies, Xema.
Big thanks also to Cayo Bellveser for his typically tasty bass guitar playing and the positive energy he brings to every situation.
Chase Gassaway contributed yet another great melodic idea in the form of those exotic arpeggios - those choral moments in the verses harkin to scenes of some hero standing on the precipice of a volcano as island natives prepare a sacrifice for Mothra or King Kong.
And you know I have Maja Burton to thank for her unfailing support, stellar songwriting contributions, epic hotness and fantastic backing vocals.
My man, Pedro Viñuela did an excellent job mastering the track, once again. www.pedrovinuela.com
Written, sung and guitared by yours truly.
Thanks for your support. I hope the song stirs something in your heart and mind.
